|
Chief
Executive
|
I had the total responsibility for the running of
the Company and as the only executive director reported to the Board
on all issues. I produced the initial business plan and agreed this
with the Government Office for the Humber (GOYH) after negotiating
with each of the Partner organisations (DTI, Humberside TEC, Local
Authorities, Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise Agency) covering
the North Lincolnshire area. I set up the Company from the production
of Memorandum & Articles to negotiating premises leases, equipping
& furnishing including selection of IT equipment, PABX & telecommunications,
etc., recruitment and training of 6 staff, gaining acceptance from
GOYH before opening for trading in 1996. Since then the company
has achieved and over performed on all agreed targets and objectives
set, including attainment of the Investors in People award in less
than a year, whilst trading within tight cash flow restraints, building
cash reserves and making trading surpluses in excess of £50K. I
also helped the other Business Links in the production of financial
information (budgets, P& L statements, balance sheets, cash flow
statements) for their own business plans & helped in the development
of management information systems used by all. |

In parallel with the above I was also a director
of this Company which provided a centralised shared service to the
four operating companies covering joint marketing, common IT systems
and the management of consultants on exporting, innovation & technology
and design,. I had specific responsibility for the development of
the IT systems and a common Client Database used by all the Business
Links and the TEC in the Humber area. We successfully developed
& installed a Client Management Database system with full electronic
mail and implemented a WAN based on Microsoft NT between 7 sites,
with over 200 users. |

Deputy
Group Chairman/ Joint Managing Director
|
I had two roles, one as the director responsible
at group level for various activities, the other as Managing Director
having total responsibility for a subsidiary company. As Deputy
Group Chairman of the AIM Board I had specific group responsibilities
viz. IT strategy, all office services including Personnel, Security,
Health & Safety, Transport, Asset Maintenance, Telephone management,
corporate administrative systems, Quality initiatives - ISO 9001,
IIP, and group management & technical standards. I introduced
meaningful Management Information systems to the group and each
subsidiary company to enable business performance to be more closely
monitored. The AIM Holdings group had a total turnover of some
£13 million, 330 employees and over 1000 customers.
As
Chairman and Managing Director of AIM Law Data Ltd. based in Leeds
(bought from the Receiver in 1990) I achieved a net profit of
over £1 million being some 17% of turnover by the successful marketing
of Debt Recovery systems. I also assumed the role of Quality Manager
for the implementation of a Quality Management system embracing
all aspects of BS5750 Part 13. This process necessitated reorganising
the company and covered business re-engineering, re-educating
employees to the new company culture and their respective roles
within the organisation, leading on to IIP. I also acted as Lead
Auditor of the TQM system.
Up
to 1990 as Chairman and Managing Director of AIM Retail Systems
Ltd. I was responsible for the marketing and development of a
fully integrated modular Retail Management computer system, which
has since been adopted by the major food supermarket companies
and other large retailers in the UK. It has earned AIM revenues
in excess of £10 million. A major part of my role covered all
aspects of marketing where I carried out market research, creation
of suitable sales literature/video, sales training and support,
promotional programme and negotiating major sales contracts with
leading retailers.

I acted as MIS Director to the parent company, which operated

over this period. I also acted as IT Director to a major Financial
Institution providing a Store Credit Card service and other forms
of consumer credit services to leading High Street retailers.
Latterly as Director and General Manager the role became more
